Chapter 4.      Running Against God

a.     Jonah’s complaint
b.     Lessons from the Lord

Themes:              God’s sovereignty,  God's justice,  God's  mercy and grace;  the futility of disobedience.
Key Verses:
2:8-9 They that observe lying vanities forsake their own  mercy.  But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD. (KJV)

4:11 And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle? (KJV)

Christ in Jonah: Jonah’s three days in the fish anticipates Jesus’ death and resurrection.  (Matthew 12:40)

The salvation of the Ninevites represents the salvation available to all people in Christ.
